ZOMBIES are winning in the Halloween costume battle this year.
Thousands of Victorians jumped on board the Twilight craze, but Melbourne vampire Drew Sinton said his fellow bloodsuckers were dying out as gen Y embraced dead, brain-eating characters for inspiration.
"Vampires are no longer in vogue. The big thing now is zombies," he said.
More than 10,000 are expected to turn out for the annual Melbourne Zombie Shuffle next Sunday.
ZombieHire.com owner Jason Beks was not surprised fans were abandoning the vampire genre in droves.
"Twilight author Stephenie Meyer essentially staked every vampire when she required them to succumb to human teen romance, play baseball and twinkle in the sun," he said.
